On the 8th of September 2019, I had the honour of photographing one of the most intimate and heartwarming weddings of my career. Sue and Simon, along with their four children, celebrated their love in a beautifully small and personal ceremony at Albert Cottage on the Isle of Wight. This wedding was a true testament to the fact that no matter how large or small the gathering, there is always a place for a professional photographer to capture the precious moments of the day.

"We're only having a small wedding, we don't need a photographer."

Although my photography style and quality has evolved over the last 5 years, since Sue & Simons intimate wedding, I hope by sharing their story you might reconsider!

Getting Ready at a Victorian Villa

The day began at a beautiful Victorian villa near the park in Ventnor. The air was full of excitment as Sue prepared for her special day with the help of Lynsey-Marie. The villa, filled with laughter and anticipation, provided the perfect backdrop for the getting ready photos. Capturing these moments, from the final touches of makeup to the joyful smiles of Sue's children, set the tone for a day filled with love and happiness.

A Ceremony Under the Bandstand At Albert Cottage

Sue and Simon’s wedding ceremony took place under the bandstand in the picturesque gardens of Albert Cottage. The couple’s four children were the only guests, making the ceremony incredibly intimate and personal. Despite the small size, the emotions were grand. As Sue walked down the aisle and the couple exchanged vows, I made sure to capture every meaningful glance and tear of joy.

After the ceremony, we took some traditional family portraits in the serene gardens, followed by couple portraits around the grounds and in the famous tunnel/corridor of Albert Cottage. The joy and love between Sue and Simon were evident in every shot.

Celebrations with Afternoon Tea at Albert Cottage Wedding

The newlyweds and their children then enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea under the bandstand. The table setup was beautifully decorated, providing an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere for the family to celebrate together. From canapés on the patio to a cosy tea time, these moments were filled with laughter and togetherness. It was a perfect example of how a small wedding can be just as magical as a large one.

Capturing Memories & A Birthday To Remember

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job as an Isle of Wight wedding photographer is creating lasting memories for couples, regardless of the size of their wedding. Sue and Simon’s wedding was a perfect reminder that intimate celebrations are equally deserving of professional photography. Their day was documented in a beautifully printed album, ensuring that these moments can be cherished forever.

Interestingly, the 8th of September is also my birthday. Spending the day capturing Sue and Simon’s wedding was a true joy and didn’t feel like work at all. It was a reminder of why I love what I do – documenting love stories in a relaxed and natural style that tells the story as it unfolds.

The Essence of Documentary Wedding Photography

Sue and Simon’s wedding day encapsulated everything I strive for in my photography – capturing the authentic, emotive, and timeless moments that make up their love story. Whether you’re planning a large celebration or an intimate gathering, professional wedding photography ensures that every moment is beautifully preserved.

If you’re considering an Albert Cottage wedding or any Isle of Wight wedding, I’d love to be part of your special day and capture your unique love story too!
